Our Story Starts in Skokie
A Neighborhood Tradition Since 1972
The Dengeos story began in Skokie in 1972, when Dennis and George opened a restaurant with a shared ambition: to serve great gyros to the Chicago area. They combined their names to create “Dengeos,” giving their restaurant an identity rooted in the people behind it.
That first location laid the foundation for a neighborhood tradition. Generous portions, satisfying meals, and welcoming hospitality became central to the Dengeos experience, bringing guests back for everyday lunches, family dinners, and time spent together.
A Family Tradition Takes Shape
A New Chapter, the Same Commitment
In 1981, brothers George and Louis Atsaves and their brother-in-law George Theodosis took ownership of Dengeos. Together, they built on its beginnings with a hands-on approach and a commitment to quality food and friendly service.
The restaurant’s story continued into the next generation as Nick Theodosis, George Theodosis’ son, took on a leading role at the Skokie location. That family involvement helped carry forward the attention to detail and hospitality that had become part of Dengeos’ identity.
Growing With Our Communities
Three Locations. One Dengeos Tradition.
What began as a single restaurant in Skokie has grown into three locations across Chicago’s northern suburbs. Dengeos expanded to Buffalo Grove in 2000, with Glenview later becoming part of the story, bringing its Greek favorites and American classics to more neighborhood tables.
Today, our Skokie, Buffalo Grove, and Glenview restaurants carry that tradition forward. Each location shares a commitment to generous meals and welcoming hospitality, giving longtime regulars and first-time visitors a place to enjoy the Dengeos experience.
